Changing What We Focus On
When you look backwards you always see the path that brought you to your destination. You see the obstacles you’ve had to overcome, and how you’ve had to persevere. You stop and you realize that you’re still here, that you’re still breathing, and that it’s going to be ok.
It’s easy to never do something because you’re afraid or apprehensive. You can live that way. Never take chances, never take risks… But there is no sense of adventure in that.
Sometimes you have to jump in head first, ignoring what’s holding you back. Sometimes you need to run before you can walk, soar before you can fly…
The sign says, “People swimming and wading have drowned here.”
You can spend your whole life looking at the sign, and forget that right behind you is the ocean.
Roaring, frothing, wild, and untamed… it invites you forward into adventure.
